John 17

Happy Wednesday!

John chapter 17 is a continuous prayer from Jesus to God and can be broken up into 3 parts. Verses 1-5 focuses on Jesus praying for himself and acknowledging that “the hour has come.” We can see how selfless, loving, and trusting Jesus is by stating that he has finished the work God gave him to do, and that he is ready to be in God’s presence again.

Verses 6-19 focuses on Jesus praying for his disciples. He prays that the disciples will be protected and kept safe once he is no longer with them. He prays that the “evil one” will not get to them and asks for their sanctification and unity.

Verses 20-26 focuses on Jesus praying for all believers. He prays for no one to be alone, and for believers to be united. He asks for believers to know the love of God and experience God’s continual presence.

It is amazing how much love Jesus had for us, despite how terrible of sinners we were and continue to be. I feel blessed and lucky to have such a loving God despite our shortcomings. This chapter reminds me that I really need to try harder to live a life that is more glorifying to God, in hopes that one day we will be able to be in God’s presence in heaven. It also encourages me to try to bring more people to know God, in hopes that they too may be saved one day and have eternal life.

Hope everyone has a great rest of the week!
