John 19
Hello ODM, John 19 reminds us once again how much Jesus suffered, tortured, rejected, and humiliated, to take the full weight of the world’s sin upon Himself. Even though He had every power to stop it, He chose obedience to the very end. When Pilate declared, “I find no basis for a charge against him” (John 19:6), Jesus still allowed Himself to be handed over. When the soldiers mocked Him with a crown of thorns (John 19:2–3), He did not retaliate. And when He finally declared, “It is finished” (John 19:30), it was not a cry of defeat but of completion, the work of redemption fully accomplished. As we reflect on this chapter, we see a Savior who reveals a love that does not withdraw when things get tough. He endured until the very end, amazing. As we continue our Christian journey, we will encounter people around us carrying quiet hurts, people wrestling with questions, and people who may not see everything the same way. Instead of pulling away, we are called to meet one another with the patience and grace Jesus showed on the cross. These differences are part of being a family of faith. John 19 invites us to approach one another with gentleness, to create space for healing, understanding, and restoration. When we choose compassion over assumption and grace over frustration, we reflect the heart of the One who suffered for us. May we be a church community shaped by the cross: steady in love, generous in mercy, and willing to walk alongside one another with humility. And as we practice this Christ‑like love within our church family, may it naturally overflow to our neighbors, so that all who encounter us might experience glimpse of hope and compassion of Jesus.
